What are some other free social networking sites?
Do not include Myspace, Orkut, Facebook, or Xanga.
What are some other free social networking sites?
You could use Bribble Chat, but you need to sycronize what time, port and all that stuff
*or*
You could use IMVU.com. It is a 3-D avatar, teen land to chat.
You might want to check it out!

How does Yahoo Answers encourage social networking?
No, it does not "encourage" social networking and isn't supposed to do so. This is not a chat room. I disabled my email option so people would quit trying to keep contacting me after they read a particularly interesting answer then wanted to "continue the conversation" because I'm not here to converse, I'm here to answer questions.
I'm not an anti-social person, I just don't need the people from Yahoo Answers to supplement my already satisfactory social life.
How does Yahoo Answers encourage social networking?
It encourages the swapping of ideas and information across different countries and age groups.
Unfortunately, there are way too many antisocial people on here, also.

Can anyone recommendresources for learning social networking? Not MySpace- but theories and skills.?
Yeah.
You can try Facebook.
You can make a group for whatever; and people from different universities can join and you can discuss it, form conferences, etc...
You can even search for other registered users in other Universities/Professions/Colleges and send them an invitation to your group.

What's the future of social networking websites?
People are going to get pretty bored of facebook and myspace because there's only so much you can do. Is it a fad? I'm not so sure but how could they possibly offer more on myspace and facebook etc...
What's the future of social networking websites?
the future like the man above says is a site called myWdot.com...it is just starting up but you can drag and drop your images, videos, music, youtube videos where you want them on your pages.
Reply:future i believe facebook is a mess but what i think something with callin , video , plus being simple like orkut so any one can work on it

Does anyone else feel that social networking sites are damaging to personal lives.?
i.e. FACEBOOK....MYSPACE???
Does anyone else feel that social networking sites are damaging to personal lives.?
100% yes. I don't think there's anything wrong with casual chatting/communicating with friends and keeping tabs with family members, co-workers, etc.
But it becomes a problem when that's all people live for, log in first thing in the morning and last thing before bed; I know of myspace addicts who wake up in the middle of the night to check messages and whatnot.
I think it de-fabricates reality and social lives of people, aside from exposing them to god knows what BS people post on those places.
Reply:Not 100 percent. they hurt but can also help.
Reply:Yes. I have only a few friends on facebook, but that's because I'd like to share pictures with people half way across the world. I only have close family and friends on mines, not people I met for 10 minutes at a party.
Reply:NO DOUBT!

Stalkers
Pedophiles
Immature kids posting information that they are too young to understand may damage their reputation and future. Employers and universities are using them to vet candidates.
How would you like to not get into the college of your choice because as a stupid 16 year old...you posted a photo of yourself in a school play of ...say the producers...and the photo of you dressed as Hitler. Someone misinterprets and deems you a racist.... it happens.
Also...in appropriate photos showing too much skin. If it isn't appropriate for Mom or Dad...or even Grandma...its not appropriate for you AT ALL!

How can I monetize my social networking website, other than adsenses ?
While AdSense and similar ad networks are an easy way to set up a revenue stream, alternatives include:
-building your own sponsorship program (low tech, high touch)
-investing in a third party ad network platform and selling ad space (low touch, high tech)
-joining affiliate programs and embedding image and text links
Don't expect to make a living off advertising, regardless of form. Good luck.
How can I monetize my social networking website, other than adsenses ?
Affiliate marketing is probably one of your best bets. There are many products and services that would be of interest to your visitors. By referring these, via text link or image links, you can generate a significant income stream.
Check out the affiliate program articles at:

Reply:Use adbrite
Reply:This article provides a rich collection of articles on ways to monetize a site:http://www.technacular.com/2007/02/26/co...
Reply:Sign up for bidvertiser. They are 3 times better then adsense and pay more forr each click. Sign up through the referal button at http://www.geocities.com/bidvertiserads
Reply:Try to identify ecommerce opportunities that your social network would be interested in buying.
Find companies that provide those products, get in their affiliate program and you would earn a commission from referring them over for a sale.

Advertising
How does the owner of social networking websites like orkut, facebook earns money?
They earn money through in several ways. Facebook obviously has adverts on their page. But they also sell statistic which marketing companies will buy. When you fill out surveys or certain add ons in Facebook that make you "agree for them to access your personal data", they sell this to marketing companies so they can design and target products at specific categories of people.
Reply:Ads on the sites.
Reply:Nominal earnings from: virtual gifts. That's it, for now!
The big thing is member retention and traffic. More of both means greater likelihood that members will click and view ads.
Microsoft would agree. They invested a ton in the company already.
Right now facebook has penetrated the world, but it is already having problems: ad clicks are very, very low when compared to ads shown. So longer out, it needs other revenue sources instead of just simple ad banners and ad sales.
Reply:mainly from advertisers. but like most of the website builders, their main goal is to have someone buy their website. just like youtube. it was bought by google.
Reply:As stated above - advertising.
Facebook also sell gifts you can send to friends at $1 should you chose to buy them.
Reply:join affiliate website like http://www.eyeearns.com , and promote it on orkut, face book or any other network.

How to promote a social-networking website(www.reqqi.com) on the web?
Small Business Marketing Strategy: Target the up-and-coming search engines
While Google still rules the roost when it comes to Internet search engines, and Yahoo is firmly entrenched in second spot, a number of new start-ups are hoping to give them a run for their money. And a good small business marketing strategy would be to check them out and see how you can make them work for your site!
Some of the new up-and-comers include:
Powerset (www.powerset.com): A "natural language" search engine
Hakia (www.hakia.com): A "meaning-based" search engine
Wikia(www.wikia.com): A "community-based" search engine
ChaCha(www.chacha.com): A "social networking-based" search engine
Snap (www.snap.com): A search engine that offers visual previews
It's a smart small business marketing strategy to continue optimizing for the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines as they are by far and away the most popular -- but niche search engines could provide new opportunities to reach your market. Be sure to check them out!
How to promote a social-networking website(www.reqqi.com) on the web?
Hi,
In my opinion social-networking site should be promoted by word of mouth so any process of SEO is pointless and if you will keep in mind that phrases like social-bookmarking are extremely competitive I would rather go with services like digg, which are created by real people that see quality of your website.
You can also try making some short videos promoting your site and uploading them to sites like youtube. Choose what you want but don't go with SEO[search engine optimization] as it will take you at least a year of hard work if not more to show up on first page.

Reply:Hi,
First of all, you should not rely on exchanging links alone. In web marketing, you should be able to try on one or more strategies to gain traffic you want for your site. I suggest that you should try submitting your url to as many sites as possible. Also, try to join forums, which have similar interests as your site offers. This will also give you the exposure you wanted. Try to write articles about your site (products/services) and submit them to different sites that cater to article submission. The people who get to read them will become interested with your site. Gaining traffic takes time. And you have to wait for at least six months to see the actual results.

Why are gay men social networking pages so ostentatious?
I mean, str8 men don`t fill their pages with naked women, str8 women don`t fill their pages with naked men. Are gay men only sexual images? Have they nothing else to show?
P.S. I don`t have anything agains gay men, just that I don`t understand this.
If you find a page of a ~normal~ so to say gay man page, send me a link. I want to see the ~miracle~.
Or just write a nice answer.
Thank you!
Why are gay men social networking pages so ostentatious?
Im gay, 34, PA, male. I know what you mean though. I don't know why the profiles have to have PNP, bottom, right off the bat. Mine doesn't. It is actually annoying at times. So many wonderful men have made themselves out to be cool when they actually are coming off as hogs. Good question

Reply:"st8 men don't fill their pages with naked women"
...what the hell?
That is so bs.
Reply:Check out my MySpace page. There is a link to it from my profile. I think nudity ruins everything.
Also, on my Yahoo! 360 page, there are lots of models on in my background, but no nudes.
I know that you aren't technically allowed to post nude stuff on MySpace or Yahoo! 360, but even if you were, I wouldn't do it.
Oh and to ĦΣŊ®¥ ЈǾ, ostentatious means to attract attention, or vulgar.
Reply:If you mean flamboyantly nude, then I can see your problem. Straight men do it all the time. Everyone does. Women, too.
Well, actually, ostentatious is usually meant to be showy or loud in a "cool" way. But it can also be used to show that one is vulgar or tawdry. You're right, I was just thinking of only the more common usage.

How have career-oriented social networking sites furthered your career or improved your life?
Many people participate on these websites because they hope/believe that it will further their career or improve their lives.
This question is intended to determine how successful these websites are in living up to that expectation.
How have career-oriented social networking sites furthered your career or improved your life?
when people are unsure about their careers I often suggest they take career aptitude tests and many of them have thanked me for the tip, so I take this as a positive sign.

Besides "Mixi", what other social networking sites are popular in Japan right now?

Besides "Mixi", what other social networking sites are popular in Japan right now?
Popular SNS sites in Japan:
Mixi: http://mixi.jp
Yahoo! JAPAN Days: http://days.yahoo.co.jp
GREE: http://gree.jp
Otaba: http://otaba.jp
Mixi is by far the most popular, but Yahoo! JAPAN's Days has a nice set of features and should catch up fast. Gree has some interesting features, but not everything seems to work and the interface is slightly confusing. Otaba...sorry, it doesn't look like an SNS that I am very interested in getting into. ;-)
Hope this helps.
By the way...there are more out there, but they are not very popular.

Are there any safe social networking sites?
Depends on what you are refer to as safe.
Facebook is fairly safe, but it is still easy to get your personal information off of it.
Are there any safe social networking sites?
the word "social" automatically makes it unsafe as you meet new people, becuase thats the purpose of a social website
and its unsafe becuase you dont know what those people actually want to do.
Reply:its not the network its how u handle yourself on it.
myspace is safe if your not an idiot and post your information all over the place.
facebook is boring and generic, sure its "safer" but still if your not safe on it then its not safe.
theres also bebo, i dont go much on it, uhhhhh midzid or sumtin like that.
just dont post your full name, school, numbers, and you can always set your profiles to private and what not. if someone is suspicious dont hesitate to block them.
just dont make yourself vulnerable and anything y ou will choose will be safe
Reply:none are safe , any1 can pose as a 14 year old guy/girl and start talking to you ,
it's best just to talk to people who you know and are close friends with
oh and never EVER meet up woth some1 you meet online
but i'm sure you already know this

What is the best social networking site for children?
Children shouldn't be networking on the internet. Go play in the sandbox.
What is the best social networking site for children?
The playground. Let the little ones actually interact with REAL people.
Reply:what do you mean? hopefully none. that's dangerous.
Reply:You will be better off getting them involved with some kind of community or school activities. They are young they will have plenty of time for the internet.

What is the best social networking site in your opinion?
I use Facebook and (to a lesser extent) Myspace. I heard that there were sites that pay you for using them though. Is this true or just some scammy way to get people to sign on?
What is the best social networking site in your opinion?
The "best" in terms of how likely you are to find friends on the website, I think, is Facebook. Myspace is losing members by the day and it's becoming more of a haven for music artists that are trying to post their music online. If you want a broader network, I'd say use Facebook.
Also, no site will pay you to sign on. It's a well-known scam, just like legal cannabis.
Reply:I used to use FaceBook, however now I'm starting to get out in the real world and socialize.

Do you think that social networking online is breaking down?
face to face human interactions
Do you think that social networking online is breaking down?
As a society we are going through the growing pains of how to do it right. We know that just because we can get people all together we can't make them all get along.
In some ways social networking on the computer has hurt us, in others it helps.
I think it's just trade offs, I can talk to more people with less effort, expanding my horizons and meet people I would have never met otherwise. As a consequence I don't actually meet people face to face, I don't know their mannerisms, also it's easier to be rude and indifferent to people that are only just pictures or words on a screen.
Reply:No, I do not believe that is true.
Reply:No. It expands the lives of both those who meet many people daily and those who do not.

What is the best social networking site, Yahoo! 360 or Windows Live Spaces?
I have been playing around with both of them, and I like them both better than the horribly designed MySpace. Please chime in with any other sites you recommend as well.
What is the best social networking site, Yahoo! 360 or Windows Live Spaces?
I would go with Yahoo 360. But I am on a Mac so that's my reasoning. Windows Live Messanger does work on Macs, but it's not where near as good as it is on Windows.

Will the im social networking of the future change forever the way people will interact with each other?
IM is an extension of the internet and email. It has changed human communications to some extent, but as for it being all that dramatic - that may be a little overdone.
It is faster, and it is fun sometimes too. But, it is just another way to say howdy.
Will the im social networking of the future change forever the way people will interact with each other?
somehow some of us get glued to the internet for networking and interaction tt we lose the human touch or rather the human touch is enhanced depending on how u look at the situ. eg YA enhances comms. so imsn may succeeed but its competing with other similar engines. theres just too many of it now. the tested ones seem to be the ones tht's lasting. so its still anybodys guess!! lets seeee

MySpace, Tagworld, Multiply, CollectiveX, Yahoo 360 etc. all offer a robust suite of tools (blog, photo posting, video, chat, forums, tags, etc.) but as they host these things, they require you to use their URL. Is there a way to create a site using these tools, but use my own URL? Could I simply redirect viewers? Or is there a service that would allow me to do that?
Is there a social networking site that will allow me to use my own URL?
There is an open distributed standard for relationship information called "Friend of a Friend" (FOAF):
http://www.foaf-project.org/
But the project has had nowhere near the success that any of these other sites have. You can add a FOAF file to your own site, but it makes most sense if you're linking to people who also use FOAF.
As an alternative, you can also simply redirect or use frames to have your URL direct attention to these sites (although you'll probably have to choose).

What kind of social networking / community discussion site should I start?
I have a large university's bandwidth (1000 megabytes per second), I'm willing to buy an external hard drive or two if necessary (several hundred gigabytes of storage), I am creative and have a lot of experience in web design and graphics, and I have worked with PHP/MySQL. I also have friends who can help me code something, and I know people who could help me build a community and user base.
What can I make that college students would use? A Yahoo! Answers type site? Something similar to Rate My Professors? Facebook/Myspace? Something like Google Docs/Spreadsheets, except with some kind of commenting/discussion system?
Let me know if you guys have any ideas. Thanks!
What kind of social networking / community discussion site should I start?
Sorry to say it, but if you don't have a grand (new) idea, then it's probably been done already.
But... Having worked on similar projects for Uni, I would suggest asking your prospective users. Ask them what they want or need and can't find anywhere else. This will almost guarantee an audience because they are the ones that know!

Do you take social networking sites too seriously?
I have some family and close friends on one, and they all think that because i re-added a guy who broke up with me months ago that i'm still not over him...but i don't have the heart to delete him again, and find myself now agreeing with the reasons he broke up with me (anger issues, problems communicating). i know it sounds stupid but just because i added him again i feel an enormous pressure to be friends but its something thats going to take much more time cuz he fuked me up. now he wants to maybe catch up over the holiday but i ain't calling. any suggestions?
Do you take social networking sites too seriously?
I don't take social networking sites seriously. But if you take social networking sites seriously, then your re-adding this guy in your friends list is serious. Had you taken these sites casually, why did you bother re-adding him in the first place?
Reply:I HATE those sites. I have a facebook myself but i barely use it. It is basically a competition between your friends to see who has more of a life and more friends. it is just retarded

What changes in social networking will come in the next decade?
In services, features, applications, so on?
What changes in social networking will come in the next decade?
See one of the first things that Facebook needs to do is create an appliance to enter the corporate workspace. This would be similar to what Google did earlier. See a private Facebook network setup between corporations to run projects and develop teams.
One large hurdle that social networks will need to address is data protection and privacy. Facebook already has had an issue with that and the response from the public was fast and left nothing to the imagination.
The schools will eventually embrace the networking and see how to use it so the kids will be able to learn from it and connect the kids that need help in math or whatever subject to engage mentoring.
Cyber bullying is another evil of the social networking space that will need to be addressed. Unfortunately, to do so will result in some loss of privacy.
My biggest concern is the vast amount of data that people are putting up is just inviting more identity theft and sex offenders.
Better protection of the pictures. Maybe some image encryption so only those with the proper certs can view your site. Just one more level of protection.
Going to be interesting that is for sure

Are thererisks with Social Networking?Could there be risks with answers too?
for the young and impressionable i think there are some risks. parents should make sure there kids are aware that people may not always be who/what they say they are.
it does surprise me sometimes how willing some people are to give out personal information to relative strangers who they 'think' they know over the internet.
i think the risk is a lot smaller on answers given its format and lesser attraction to the younger teenager.

Meeting on online social networks?
Theres this person who i added to my friends and am really interested in just by their description of themself and their interests. Even tho were on eachothers friends list we havent messaged eachother. So my question is, what should i send in my first message to initiate showing interest in them, while making them like me too?
Meeting on online social networks?
Well, I don't know what you should say, but I know what you SHOULDN'T say.
1) Don't tell them ohh you're pretty. Or something like that. When people send me messages telling me that, it gives me the idea that the only reason they decided to include me on their friends list was because of the way I look.
2) Don't ask them about their relationship status right off the bat. Honestly, take it from me, I don't know why, but it's probably the most annoying thing that people I don't know ask me.
That's like the only two things I wouldn't say.
I guess you could start by saying hi, that always works. l0l.
And just introduce yourself, and be like, hi, my name's _____. I noticed your on my friends list, but we've never talked, so what's up? Something like that. Hope I helped.
Reply:Send just a short introductory note about yourself (and I mean short) but also ask questions so they will have some reference point to answer to. It is like writing to pen pals.
Good luck
Reply:I think just write to her or him whatever thoughts come to you. Maybe your shared interests, or just a casual hi to begin with. See how it goes, and builds up. All the best. You don't have to try too hard to impress someone. Just be natural.
Reply:utilize your concurrent interests. Comment upon the fact that you share interests. Make use of this fact as a means of generating conversation on whatever messaging services you both might share. This can be a very effective tactic to initiate friendly or even loverly contact.
So try that. it has worked before, it might work for you.

Are there any social networks for natural healers or vibrational healers?
No, thse people ar edoubted by most people so have to do small, independent businesses
Are there any social networks for natural healers or vibrational healers?
My Mum is a registered spiritual healer with 'The Greater World', she works with a group based in a Spiritualist Church doing free healing,( they ask for donations only, for all the folks who think it's just a money making scam they average 50pence to £1 per person.) The group organise the occasional get together, but apart from this I'm not aware of any social organisation.

We run a social networking site, how can we avoid having our members' messages finish in hotmails junk folder?
All your members when they recieve your email must open it under junk mail folder and click at Not Junk Mail tab on top of that email and add your email address to their safe list and from next time all your emails would go to Inbox.
We run a social networking site, how can we avoid having our members' messages finish in hotmails junk folder?
the members have to put the address into their safe list on their hotmail address settings.
Reply:Are you talking about messages u send or they send? because if its messages they send then u have to add all their emails into your address book but if it s ones you send they have to add you into their address book.

I have a social networking software as well as a domain name and hosting.i need help making my front end to?
i dont have any experience in php or computers i wanted the myspace look and feel.
i want my site set up were it runs by itself no other branding but my own.
i want to provide music video, film, music, photos and all media uploading and downloading sharing etc
i need to have a dedicated movie player as well as mps player
i would like to have a script were i would have the license to allow people to download thousands of music videos and all sorts of media.
if i own the script and license it keeps people coming back unless it can be a way of letting my community go to other sites and of course have them be able to hit home and there right back to the community
now when this is done in my program members go off to another sight but theres no path to get back via a 1 button press.
they end up having to press the go back button 20 times and by the 3rd click i lost them.
im not rich i just have a great idea can i get some help please
I have a social networking software as well as a domain name and hosting.i need help making my front end to?
Try searching this site for the software to do what you want.
http://php.resourceindex.com/
or
http://www.hotscripts.com/
Youll need to be able to ftp the packets into place and likely need hosting that supports both PHP and MYSQL.
Most are free and fully functioning stand alone PHP scripts if you want to link them you might need to read up some at
http://www.w3schools.com/php/default.asp
Best of luck.
Reply:well you can't control what happens in someone's browser. If they have your site set as "home" they can click the home button. Otherwise you will either have to have them open the "new site" in a frame or in a new window.
Also you might want to consider hiring someone to do your front end if you are serious about this. Also, how are you going to make a profit if you don't have any other branding?

Do you think social networking sites like Myspace, Yahoo 360 etc have made people narcissistic?
overall, do you see sites such as these as having a positive or negative impact on society?
Do you think social networking sites like Myspace, Yahoo 360 etc have made people narcissistic?
Depends how you look at it.
Reply:i do think it makes some people nacissistic. i think its negative. makes people too lazy to talk in person, causes drama between people, you never know who your actually talking to....
Reply:its funny u shud ask this question because I am right in the middle of a 6 month research project on this subject. But I have to say so far that about 32.5 per cent of the peeps are narcissistic. Its a posittive on society for peeps who have nothing better to do. It keeps them off the couch snoozing and eating potato chips watching soap operas. On the other hand its negative because if they were not on their PC, they could be outside enjoying nature and the fresh air it provides
Reply:People were narcissistic before that now it's just to a bigger audience.
Reply:negative, cuz of the overall decrease in out GDP due to the time lost spending surfing those sites.
Reply:Yes, has made them more centered on themselves and impressing other people. I believe it does have a negative impact on society as have most of the Internet. It was designed to be a tool for accessing information. It's basically just one huge dating site/porn site now.
I know pornography addiction as well as adultry has risen and this hurts marriages, families, children.

Are gay online social networking sites replacing gay bars?
Feels like more and more people prefer meeting others on the web compared to say 10 years ago... What do you think?
Are gay online social networking sites replacing gay bars?
You can't dance on a web site.
Reply:Where the social networking sites are working is with people that are in rural areas. They are "connected" to the gay lifestyle, and can meet "local" people they might not otherwise find.
Working in a STD clinic I find that more of the clients are meeting their partners on line, and sad to say it has increased the STD/HIV rates a lot.
But people need to be in social settings and the bars will never be replaced for that reason. In fact one of our bars has a Sunday afternoon for the "one line" people to meet and get to socialize in the real work, not cyber space, and it has been very successful.
Reply:I don't think so. The bars are just as packed as they were 10 or even 20 years ago.
People still need the real world.
Reply:There will always be bars! It is where real people really meet. Online meetings only give you the illusion of being someone else. How many of us have embellished who we are or what we really do online, only to be busted later, a large majority. When it comes down to it where do most of us set up meetings for online contacts? at the clubs mostly. The Internet is great for chatting and what not, but clubs/bars will be around for a long time. They are a "constant," like church, groceries stores, they are a mainstay of community gatherings.
Reply:No i don't think so...Networking sites are used primarily to meet new guys and to date...gay bars are to go out and have a good time
Reply:i hate english
Reply:For dating, I was more for online... For having fun, drinking, and dancing the bar... But I never picked anyone up from the bar. I always knew of the 3 week relationships from the bars... So I just went there to have fun, not really meet anyone...
Reply:I don't think gay online networking sites are REPLACING bars. I just think it's another venue to meet people, socialize, and (for some people) hook up.
I do think, however, that there ARE those who don't enjoy going to bars, so online networking is probably a welcomed replacement for them.
Bars will always be popular, because it's a place to see, be seen, drink, dance, meet friends, and have fun.

Yes they are. Kids can be exposed to all kinds of people with bad intentions.

I think whether it is about India or some other country- social networking sites are good. It makes people share opinions, it makes people of different nations or (since you specifically mentioned India) states/cities interact and find similarities without political considerations. I think it broadens your outlook for life.
But like all good things, social networking sites are abused often, and only a collective effort on part of the members can prevent it.
Have you considered that even Yahoo Answers is a online community and by interacting through questions and answers with other members you are actually participating in a sort of limited social-networking? Social networking sites have become a part of our lives!
Reply:here we don't know cause we are out side of India.. could be could not be that depends on the individual persons thoughts on the matter.
and what do you mean Social networking sites
Reply:i feel that they are definitely a boon to india cuz indians have become more aware of social networking and many sites like fropper n stuff have opened up...but i dont think all of them r good.. i recently came to noe bout Rwliance compnig up wid a new site called www.bigadda.com, which promises to be really good...its not started as yet, but in the meantime you can access the site and check which logo suits the site..

Cyber sex and social networks?
I recently added pics to my myspace webpage. Lately I've been getting these messages from girls wanting to cyber. They add me to their msn messenger. I never really chat with them it's always a automatic message telling me how to sign up. It's suppose to be free though. Are these girls sending me these messages or is it someone else trying to promote a cyber sex business? I got messages from three different girls in my area. I did get a personal message from one of the girls but it drives me insane because these messages are getting on my nerves.

Which is better social networking website and why? Myspace or Facebook?
Myspace and Facebook both have pros and cons, and as social networking sites go... it is up to the user to decide which one they feel is better.
For instance, I like Myspace's blogging capabilities more than Facebook's, but Facebook's ability to keep track of everything that my friends and I are doing is superior... so it really depends on what you are looking for.
Which is better social networking website and why? Myspace or Facebook?
I like Myspace better.
Facebook is way too private and it sucks if you don't know anyone who uses FB.
Reply:myspace is more popular but has more viruses and things like that.
Reply:I can only speak from my personal experience here.
Myspace took me months to figure out how to do everything, such as modify my profile.
Facebook took me about 3 hours.
With myspace I got friend request from tons of random hookers (not joking), porn sites, student bands, local weirdo's that thougt that I looked F*ckable, etc.
With facebook I only get friend request from people i actually know. I've never needed to set my profile to private. although you can. you can also make it so that your profile is hidden, so basically people have to call you to get added.
ton's of actual decent events with facebook. Like your friends are throwing a party. here's the address here's the time. wear this. ect.
Myspace was getting too comercial. All the events I got invited to were from some ad agency that was supposed to spam as many people in a geographical area as possible.
Also facebook has one tiny ad on the left side. smaller than a paper bookmark. No flashing lights. No four ads on a page. No giant add when you login. It is very very clean looking.
Also you have to click play to hear the songs on facebook. I freaking hated when I would be using my laptop in class and all the sudden "promiscuous girl" girl started blairing because some idiot thinks the song is cool.
Finally number one reasone why facebook is better.
It started as something that was only avalible to students. Granted anybody can get on there now. But originally it was intended as a networking site for people to leave messages for other people they went to school with. Myspace from day one has been about who is the the most F*ckable person who will flirt with me right now. Facebook is not trashy at all.
As we the users of God's chosen networking site like to say; "it's weirdo free".
You should at this point ask yourself, "am I cool enough for facebook?".
PS - about two weeks after starting facebook I deleted the myspace account that I had for like 3 years.

How does social networking sites like bebo and my space make money(besides advertising)?
Do they make any profits and how
How does social networking sites like bebo and my space make money(besides advertising)?
Social networking sites basically operate two revenue streams: contextual/banner advertising and subscriptions for premium services.
Cyworld.com allows users to create profiles for free, but the user has to pay if they want to customize it.
But advertising remains big. Myspace, for instance, according to reports earn about $25 million a month and growing every month - almost 30 per cent every quarter http://www.journalism.co.uk/2/articles/5...

Anybody boycotting "social networking websites"??
Facebook LiveJournal and of course the dreaded MYSPACE etc. I think they are pointless and a waste of time. Anyone else agree??
Anybody boycotting "social networking websites"??
Couldn't you say this is a "social networking website"? Everyone here has an assumed name, we hide behind our avatars, and seek others for guidance or to share our insight.
And I'm not really boycotting, I just prefer not to use any of those sites. I go out and meet people, I talk to my friends face to face.

Is digital social networking safe?
I think that, depending on how you go about it, it can be safer than "regular" networking.
... If you count going to bars as "networking" -- then meeting someone offline at a coffee shop (when you're both sober and can actually have a conversation) can be much safer and productive.
I think digital social networking is safe as long as you never tell someone your home address, always meet in public places, have an "early exit strategy", go with your gut, and use common safety sense (which hopefully you'd use anyway, even meeting people the more conventional routes!).
Is digital social networking safe?
It's about as safe as regular networking -- just don't link to people you don't really know.

Why are social-networking sites like msypace, hi5 and livejournal such a hit?
Way back people hung around at the same places. They they got pagers and could arrange to talk or meet up. Then they got email, and could stay in touch. Cell phones became popular, letting people talk more and text and all that. But now you can hook up (albeit only virtually) with approximately 1 zillion people, filter out those who aren't into what you find interesting, while expressing who you are in the process. Why did these services take off? What took them so long? Which is the best? Can we live without them?
Why are social-networking sites like msypace, hi5 and livejournal such a hit?
In today's world most people in a community are socially disconnected from each other. The web is helping people to become connected again--and you have the whole world as your community. It would be very difficult to go back, because our culture has changed so drastically since the seventies. Family life isn't what it once was, and lonely people have a difficult time trusting people in their own neighborhoods.

Why are social networking sites timing out?
I'm having issues with Cafe Mom and Stumble Upon timing out when sending messages or uploading photos. It looks like they are both the same type of interface. I have two home computers and these sites time out on both these sites. Is it a possible security setting? Both of these sites worked for me initially for a day and then started timing out on me.

Whats is the next great social networking?
Theres Facebook for colleges. Theres Myspace for general.
But what is an idea in networking that hasnt been done yet?
Whats is the next great social networking?
there's friendster and bebo and many more. You can just search for social networking. Each social networking has it's own benefits.
Reply:Make Niche Social Network Sites. The social network that is specific to only one occupation or interest.
Reply:Friendster founder Jonathan Abrams turned down a 30 million dollar offer to be bought by Google. He decided to go it alone and the company failed and is hanging by a thread. Worth almost nothing in stocks.
He has gone on to create another site called Socializr but I expect that to flop as well under his poor leadership. There are plenty of things that haven't been done yet.
The question is when MySpace will begin to lose it's appeal and venture capitalists will be looking for something new to invest in.

Are social networks on the internet, inciting teen violence?
I live in Baltimore. If you haven't been here, don't come. Just the other day this girl beat up her teacher, and it was recorded on someone cell phone and posted on the internet. (sorry i don't know how to do that yet). Well today another teacher was beaten up. WTH is going on? This is getting out of hand. All the shootings, gangs, fights. Do you think the parents should be held accountable? Should we go back to teachers being able to discipline the students? Do anyone have any answers/suggestions? This amount of violence in this city is really starting to get to me. I'm starting to think i have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. You equate that with veterans of war. I don't go out at night. I scare to death of teenagers and young adults. Is this normal? How does the internet contribute to this?
Are social networks on the internet, inciting teen violence?
This is a hard question for me to answer because of the "bad parenting" rap.
I agree some parents are bad and have too much leeway for their kids. I agree the mounting violence on TV may be a contributing factor. I agree that teen social networking on the internet has its dangers and can cause the possibility of inciting defiance among a group of internet peers. I agree kids have no fear or no respect of authority
However this is not ALL kids. I do want to make that clear. There are kids who succeed quite well and become contributing factors within society. Do we hear enough about them? I think the fact sensationlistic news is more apt to be aired as a miserable reward for those who instead do good for others as examples what can and should be achieved
Yes I do avoid being caught up in a group of teens too. I think it is survivor's instincts. Today's kids lack fear. I think every adult sort of feels this way. I don't think the internet is the sole contributor to the cause. I think there are too many variables in the mix. I will say this much. I think loss of the family dinner time where everyone sat together, no TV, no telephone, and no other form of distractions is sorely missed. It was the one time of the day where everyone talked about their day, unwound, reconnected as a family unit, discussed problems and solutions that occurred during that time, and the family unit became whole all over again. I am guilty of that not happening because of my long work hours.
Why I may have a bit of issue with the accountability of parents is because not all parents are guilty of being bad parents. Sometimes, kids are what they are no matter what you do for them.
I am a bad parent. It is the first preconceived thought every school official, teacher, 4 child social workesr, 3 child school psychologists, and even first introduced private psychologist has of me. I am on my 6th school since my child was 3. Until... they have gotten to know ME and my moral standards and my philosophy of child rearing and expectations.
Unfortunately, my child is intellectually above average but emotionally immature. It hinders him in many social skills because he thinks like an adult but of course he does not have adult emotions. He does not understand why adults treat him like a kids. His mind is trapped in a child's body. He is a mental chess player and proficient at it. He manipulates people and situations to mold his "ideal" environment. He can border on sociopathy (has not gone over the line yet) and has borderline Oppositional Defiance Disorder (ODD). He behaves when he chooses to and misbehaves when he willfully chooses to all for an end goal that the rest of the adults may not see because he is discounted for being 11 yrs of old. They are incapable of seeing his acuity at manipulation so they become unwitting pawns.
I am stern and I give him no quarter. So his manipulation of me is minimal (yes he sometimes succeeds if I am not thinking 42 steps ahead of him and figuring out his end goal). He knows with me, he is expected to behave and not rewarded for behavior. He knows the consequences of being caught in manipuation and he knows i can be very harsh. He behaves for me when he is with me. He has FEAR of me as he knows the outcome when he misbehaves. Unfortunately, when I am not about, then it is a different story because he knows the others discount him for being 11
So now we are on our 3rd psychologist because I felt he "fooled" the previous other 2 as they thought him "whole" after they were forewarned, this is not your typical 9 yr old, then 10, now 11. Please be aware, this child KNOWS right from wrong and he knows how to give the appropriate answers you want to hear. He knows what it takes to get the response he wants out of you.
So hopefully, you will see, even though my child does bad things, it is not because his parent is a bad parent. His step father is wonderfully patient with all of this and still loves the both of us no matter what.
Based on the history you jsut heard and should my child do something bad, would you consider me a bad parent?
Reply:read the title and the answer is yes hands down sure-fire to point blank range with a automatic shotgun accuraccy ...basically you are that much on the money
Reply:No, bad parenting or child neglect %26amp; unruly kids are at fault for the increase of teen violence. It's not video games, television nor the internet. The US mis-education system is to blame for dumbing down the parents that are now raising dumb children who don't know any better. Times are getting harder %26amp; it's just going to get worse before it has a chance to get better.

What social networking site do you use?
And why?
What social networking site do you use?
Myspace - because I've been a member of it for ages and I know my way around it well. Alot of my favorite bands are also on it.
Bebo - because pretty much everyone at my school etc has/uses it so its just generally good for that sort of bussiness.
Facebook - slightly different but again alot of people use it, including older people unlike the other 2.
I would say these are the main 3. Myspace was the biggest but now I think Facebook is the biggest and bebo is biggest with kids.
Reply:None...
Reply:I regret to say that i use myspace, i would use face book but most of my friends are on myspace...
people can be imature on myspace sometimes
Reply:I enjoy iddy-nibbles and biddy-bites. My cuisine-du-preference would be a sumptuous snack platter any day over an opulent, several course meal. Maybe that’s why I have grown so fond of my Twitter; it feeds my inner-snackdom. Sure, I indulge in the big blogs and rich articles featured all over the web but those take time and space both of which seem to be hard to find these days. In 140 characters or less, I can share my latest and greatest happenings and see what my communities of peeps are twittering about. It’s my virtual snack platter for the news, discourse, events and discussions that I am interested in following.

Which social networks do you belong to, and which do you use the most?
If you feel like it, please also specify what you like about your favourite ones.
Which social networks do you belong to, and which do you use the most?
I use three different social networks:
1) www.Facebook.com - I use this one a few times a week. I would use it more, but it seems all of the people I know on here aren't very good about responding to me after one or two messages. I can't imagine that most of them are that busy. :) One reason that I do enjoy it is that it has a very "clean" interface that does not get as cluttered as MySpace. However, people seem to add a ton of "applications" to their profile which really can mess with the profiles a bit. My understanding is that they are working to fix this. Another reason I enjoy using it are the groups. A group can be any group of people that want to communicate on a specific topic. As long as you can find a serious group that wants to communicate about a topic, it can be very useful for this.
2) www.MyGameMug.com - I use this one almost every day (it's also very new and in beta). This site is built specifically for gamers. It is the only site that I have found that actually links you to players of other games. You create a profile, add specific games that you play to your profile, then can actually see who else plays that game. Users can post their XBox Live ID, Wii Friend Code, Stream ID, etc. so you can get in touch with them If you're looking to just play a game, create a group/guild/clan/team, etc. with other gamers, this has the ability to do that. Each group has a forum (public for non-members and private for members-only), the ability to send an alert to all members of the group and other management tools. It also has a section devoted to game reviews that are all user-submitted and then rated by other users.
3) www.LinkedIn.com - This one I just started using in the last week or two. To me, I've had a bit of success finding people I have previously worked with and communicating with them once again. It also has a clean interface as well. From my brief experience with it, this will take a bit longer to setup than other networks (in my opinion) since you want to fill in your proper info, spend the time to search for and re-communicate with old co-workers. Plus, you can search networks for jobs that they may not have posted on the Internet, but just posted on LinkedIn. Basically this site just take the "it's who you know" type of aspect in real life to to the Internet. And as many of us probably know, we get jobs through who we know, not what we know. :)

Should social networking sites e.g. myspace, facebook be banned in the workplace?
then how would procrastinate?? :-)
Should social networking sites e.g. myspace, facebook be banned in the workplace?
Absolutely. My coworkers waste more time on myspace and related sites.
Reply:No.
Reply:Unless it's an actual part of your job, yes it should. A person is hired to work, and not on their myspace page. My employer pays me for my time, to be on her computer creating graphics, for customers, NOT fixing up my myspace or facebook. That is a great example of employee theft, btw.
Reply:YES IT SHOULD,
REASONS WHY
DISTRACTS YOU FROM WORKING
Reply:If you can't manage to get your work done then yes, other wise it should be allowed! One person not doing what they ought to be.........ruins it for everyone.
