How to promote a social-networking website(www.reqqi.com) on the web?

Small Business Marketing Strategy: Target the up-and-coming search engines

While Google still rules the roost when it comes to Internet search engines, and Yahoo is firmly entrenched in second spot, a number of new start-ups are hoping to give them a run for their money. And a good small business marketing strategy would be to check them out and see how you can make them work for your site!

Some of the new up-and-comers include:

Powerset (www.powerset.com): A "natural language" search engine

Hakia (www.hakia.com): A "meaning-based" search engine

Wikia(www.wikia.com): A "community-based" search engine

ChaCha(www.chacha.com): A "social networking-based" search engine

Snap (www.snap.com): A search engine that offers visual previews

It's a smart small business marketing strategy to continue optimizing for the Google, Yahoo, and MSN search engines as they are by far and away the most popular -- but niche search engines could provide new opportunities to reach your market. Be sure to check them out!

Hi,

In my opinion social-networking site should be promoted by word of mouth so any process of SEO is pointless and if you will keep in mind that phrases like social-bookmarking are extremely competitive I would rather go with services like digg, which are created by real people that see quality of your website.

You can also try making some short videos promoting your site and uploading them to sites like youtube. Choose what you want but don't go with SEO[search engine optimization] as it will take you at least a year of hard work if not more to show up on first page.

Reply:Build inbound links to your website.

Most of the directories online charge a one time fee to review your site and add it to their index. Here are three of my favorites:

The more inbound links to your site, the better you will rank

with Yahoo / Google / MSN.

Also work on your meta tags. Here is an

article on how they work: http://www.richkahmer.com/meta-tags.html

Reply:Hi,

First of all, you should not rely on exchanging links alone. In web marketing, you should be able to try on one or more strategies to gain traffic you want for your site. I suggest that you should try submitting your url to as many sites as possible. Also, try to join forums, which have similar interests as your site offers. This will also give you the exposure you wanted. Try to write articles about your site (products/services) and submit them to different sites that cater to article submission. The people who get to read them will become interested with your site. Gaining traffic takes time. And you have to wait for at least six months to see the actual results.
