I can understand using a nickname on some public sites and a few social networking sites, but what is the point of using one on a networking site that is supposed to be about "networking" or finding old friends or conecting with new ones?
Why use a nickname on social networking sites?
Because it's always easier when you hide behind a screen name.
Reply:Its more safe to use a fake name or nick name. Not everyone on those site are there to make friends. There are sick people out there who can and would hurt you if they ever found you from online. Be smart use a fake name, or risk becoming a victim or a missing person.
Reply:Some people aren't comfortable with the idea that anyone is able to find their profile or information about them simply by browsing. A lot of the time people are on those sites to communicate with their friends only, and if they wish to meet new people they can express what they want about themselves through private messaging.
Reply:Mainly because people whom you don't want to know your real name might be on that site as well.
Just because it is a site for "connecting with old friends", doesn't mean there are "bad people" on it who wish to steal your identity or stalk you.
